Rex opened my eyes to the fact that any animal, despite it's physical limitations, can live full and happy lives. After having survived two long years on the streets of Greece, Rex was rescued and flown over to Canada after I had committed to adopting him. He was diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy, which is similar to ALS, and unfortunately there is no cure for this devastating disease. A week after his arrival, he was fitted with his own wheels, and was therefor presented with his mobility once again.
After two happy years, filled with many adventures and memories, the fight against DM become too much for this strong willed beautiful dog. He had lost too much muscle, and just reaching the water bowl became a difficult task. Although it broke my heart, I made the decision to free him from his broken body and set him free on March 26th 2011.
Rex is at peace, and I can't help but find comfort in the knowledge that he is no longer struggling to get around and is able to run free. During his short time with me, he managed to bring a lot of people together, and helped find homes fro 4 other Greek dogs in need of loving homes. A true inspiration. R.I.P. Dear Sweet Rex.
God Whispered
God saw that you were getting tired and a cure was not to be…
So HE put His arms around you and whispered, “Come with ME.”
With aching hearts, we watched you suffer and saw you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly, we could not help you stay.
A Loving Heart stopped beating, A special friend put to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
