Dori the 14 pound Chihuahua mix came to me when a friend of a friend had a neighbor who passed away and Dori was left alone and needed a home at least temporarily so she went to Robert's house but he had two other dogs and he could only hold her for so long, so he reached out to our mutual friend Todd who knew I was looking for a dog. I said “no” at first, since I was really nervous about getting a dog because it had been 34 years since I lost my beloved best friend Ophie, in 1990. But I bought a leash and some treats and I headed over there to pick up “Dorothea” (Dor). It was June 8th 2024 when I first saw her, she looked older and chunkier than her picture but she still was an adorable little canine! She was probably a little scared and on edge but I put her in the car and we drove home together -- I fed her a couple of treats on the way. Then she peed all over my condo for the first two weeks until she figured out the routine and then we never had an accident in 11 months! She was 75% Chihuahua and 25% miniature pincher she had the cutest little face with gigantic ears (ironic since she was deaf) and a gray beard, she was 13 when I got her, and she died at 14 and I think she could have gone longer if she didn't have an intestinal blockage. I cherished every month, week, and day with her. She slept right next to my bed in her kennel which is what she preferred. We had a great routine every morning we would take a big walk and then she would eat and then I would bring her into work with me all day and she would curl up on her little bed behind my desk. Other than the park, her favorite thing was running to the neighbor's house for treats or when I would first come home after being gone for a social event, she was always so glad to see me she would hyper ventilate. I would also race across the condo when I had dinner prepared and she would chase me into the office where I would eat and give her scraps. Every night before bed I would sit on the floor and beckon her to come over which she was reluctant at first but then she would come and get lots of pets and massage which she loved and then she would put herself to bed.
