Our beloved Fluffy who was also nicknamed Shorty McLongfellow because of his long body and short legs, was a gentle dog that loved people of all ages and he was good with other dogs. He would be out in our backyard sniffing away and a squirrel or two could be 8 feet away from him and he’d pay them no mind. Same went for birds. He was a submissive type that never snapped at anyone as far as I know.
He loved his walks and he was very anxious on car rides. He didn’t like to swim which was disappointing because it would have been nice to see him enjoy the lake at the cottage and cool off when it was so hot out.
He followed me around the house - a real velcro dog as they say. If I was out mowing the grass at the back, he’d be waiting for me on the bed in the back room of the house that had a door leading out to the deck, and if I was mowing the front lawn he’d be waiting for me to come in the side door while hanging out in the living room at the very front of the house.
Right from the beginning, when we first got him I learned quickly that he liked to eat fresh veggies. When I was chopping them I knew he’d hear me and come running to get bites of carrots, broccoli or rutabaga. He also was crazy for and begged for a few frozen French fries before I put them in the oven and in his later years he just had to have some plain cooked pasta. He’d sit and look up toward the counter where the colander containing the pasta sat in the sink.
He loved getting deep tissue massages from my husband, Vic while sitting on his lap and no one could match Vic’s technique. Nobody does it better, as the song goes. Makes me feel sad for the rest, lol. Fluff had a really funny personality as most pets do. We loved him so much and we miss him and we’ll never forget him.
