I was thirteen at the time. My mother brought home a small black puppy she found in a gutter. It took a little sweet talk but mom and dad let me keep that dog. Dad gave him the name Duffy. Duffy grew up with me. I would sneak him in the house at night while mom and dad were asleep. We played thousands of games of fetch (he would never stop). We made hundreds of trips to the lake because he loved to swim. It wasn't til several years later that the vet told us what we thought was a mut was actually a Gordon Setter. Duffy was a good looking Gordon Setter. With black fur with highlights of tan on his feet and nose. He went from the gutter to the best dog a man could ask for. I later moved out of my parent's house and had to leave Duffy behind. I did make routine vists though. I then acquried a Golden Retriever puppy named Sydney. Duffy taught Sydney all he knew and they became friends. He taught Sydeny how to swim at the lake and how to retrieve. This year at the age of 16 Duffy became too ill. I took Sydeny over for one last visit. Duffy then passed on. May you forever rest in peace now my good friend.
