Lace was a surviour. She had a rough start in life and belonged to people before me who didn't give her the care and attention she needed.
Yet when she came to live with us, she put her trust in us, though she was unsure if whatever she was doing was ok.
She had a heart that just wanted to love, regardless of what it might cost her.
As the years went by, she relaxed in our company, knowing that we would see no harm come to her.
We have two other dogs, and she quickly established herself as alpha dog. She never displayed any meaness, but they knew she was top dog and they respected her.
She had a soft nature, and was content where ever she was.
Her soul ran deep, and you could see it in her eyes. Age and illness took away her spirit. She couldn't run anymore, and towards the end, her eyes grew vacant.
My dear Lace, your soul was departing ahead of your body and it broke my heart.
You left a place no one can fill, I love you Lace, and I always will.
