I adopted Rusty as a kitten from the local Humane Society and brought him home in my pocket. I loved him everyday and taught him tricks. I moved to BC, so I drove him and his friend Cleo out with me. We camped and when I returned to Ontario, I flew them home. Rusty was the most loving and intimate cat I ever knew. He knew exactly how to ask for love and how to give love back to me. He became the focus of my photography and many friends and family loved him. He was very vocal and demanding. He suffered from renal failure for almost a year. I gave him fluids at home and catered to him every day. I am grateful to my Vet for telling me straight when there was nothing more that could be done and that he was suffering daily. Nothing can prepare a person to end the life of a best friend. You are never ready to say good bye. His life long friend, Cleo, walked the house for a month calling for Rusty and I tried to tell Cleo that Rusty was gone. We adopted another 2 year old, Smokey from a shelter and Cleo is much better now. As for mommy and daddy, Rusty left a big hole in our hearts. I dream about Rusty often and I find watching home video of Rusty when he was young and healthy helps me realize how ill he was and that he was loved and cherished.
