I’ll never forget the day that we came to the shelter and saw you for the very first time. It was the week of Christmas 1985. Our big Christmas present was to be a new dog. I was immediately drawn to you. You were so shaggy! As I walked toward you, you slightly, tentatively wagged your tail. I put my finger up to the cage and you very gently licked my finger. You stole my heart at that moment! That very moment! Then Todd wanted you too so it was decided that you would be the new member of our family. Mom got to name you since she didn’t get to have the dog that she wanted. She named you Punkie because you looked so cute with a red bandana around your neck. There was a television show that was popular at that time called “Punkie Brewster”. She was a preteen girl that loved to dress funky with colorful bandanas tied everywhere. Anyway, we took you home and when you got spayed they discovered you were carrying puppies. So although you never got to have your babies, you were technically a mommy. I guess that is why you were so good at “mommying” me and Todd. I hope that you know how much you are loved by me, Daddy, Tisha, Emma, Todd, Gramma and Jorden. I don’t know if dogs go to heaven. I like to think so. I hope that since you were specially created by God that He would want to have you around. You are taking a piece of our hearts with you. You will always have it. We will never forget you. No dog could ever take your place in our hearts, our home or in our memory. We love you. And we thank God for giving you to us. Rest, sweet baby girl. We will miss you… ….for always, Mommy & Daddy
