I went to visit my sister one August day.
She said, ”Please come in, sit down and stay.”
While I was there she made coffee to drink.
I drank all of mine and put my cup in the sink
We stepped outside her door many cats were at play
I noticed in the distance a black and white kitten…he was a stray.
Being bullied by the other cats I snatched him up quick
I couldn’t leave him behind he was too cute, that would make me sick.
So we searched for a box for the car ride.
But he was content to ride by my side.
I pulled in the garage and called into my spouse,
“Put the dog outside! Another animal’s coming in the house!”
At first my husband wasn’t happy, “You can’t keep that cat!”
But, once he held the little fellow well, that was that.
So we added a new member to our small family
Now there were four, my husband, dog, cat and me.
For eight months we laughed, the dog and cat were riot.
Then the cat became sick and our house became quiet.
We visited the vet for 1 month straight.
Got a second opinion and he said it was too late.
“I’m sorry to tell you but your friend’s going to die.”
I listened to his words, hung up the phone and started to cry.
I told my husband all about the bad news.
He said, “It’s your choice but I know what I’d choose.”
He said, “I know it hurts now but think of what’s best.”
Knowing he was right we laid our kitty to rest.
He’s buried next to the lilac bushes, flowers and trees.
Where you hear the bird’s sing and the buzz of the bees.
Where the land is warmed by the rays of the sun.
Your free now my precious to play and have fun.
And when I get blue cuz it’s you that I miss.
I just look to the heavens and blow you a kiss.
My tears are subsiding, I seldom do cry.
I’ll always love you my baby but for now it’s Good-bye.
