Petey Won Ton Valdez Chiquito Frito Distifeno (aka Pete, aka Pedro, aka Helen Keller, aka ODB) was an adorable little fella in his time. In his youth, people would stop us on the street to ask about him. Nobody believed, with his coloring and easy-going nature, that he was a Chihuahua. He stole the show wherever he went. He was a tenacious pain when he wanted something. A snuggly leaner. Hilarious in his youth. A world traveler. A fixture in our family for the past 17 years - a part of our lives longer than Emma, Will AND Jacob! Although he was a survivor of so much (parvo as puppy, a hernia that required surgery and a near fatal dog attack), he just couldn't shake his terrible, persistent cough. After several vet visits and rounds of antibiotics, an x-ray revealed Pete's heart was enlarged and he had a tumor restricting his lung capacity/esophagus. The vet told us it was time, as did Pete. We all loved his big personality and his little, snuggly Chihuahua body. Rest easy, old man. You will be truly missed...
Some of the things we'll miss most about you, Pete-dog:
The cuddle cave
Waking you up with kisses telling you, "It's time to start your Chihuahua day!"
Always having a lap buddy.
You running around (in earlier days) in crazy circles when we'd chant, "Go Petey, Go! Go Petey, Go!"
Gramps feeding you from the table even though he's not supposed to!
Seeing your little, bitty body curled up tight into a "cinnamon bun".
You "singing" with your brother when we meow.
The funny little grunts and sighs you make when you were getting scratches and loves.
You greeting us at the door, tripping over shoes to greet us.
Seeing you sunning yourself on warm days working on your "Chihuahua tan".
Impersonating you in a Cheech and Chong voice with lots of curses.
Turning you on your back, making you look like a little praying mantis.
You getting stuck halfway up the stairs, crying until you were rescued.
Scratching behind your ear on your right side until you leaned so far over you plopped on your side because it felt so good.
Pinching your little doggie cheeks (and laughing at your old man skin staying in position).
Kissing your doggie cheeks.
Finding you wound up in a blanket with just your little head sticking out.
Putting ridiculous hats on you.
We all loved your big personality in your little, snuggly Chihuahua body. Rest now, old man. You will be truly missed...
