This memorial is a tribute to Elvis, who was euthanased yesterday. Elvis was more than a cat to us... he was like a child whom we loved with all our heart. A beautiful, sweet natured and loving cat who stole our hearts from the first day he arrived at our house. My son who lives in the US found him when he was about 7 weeks old at the side of a very busy road. He adopted this wee bundle of fun and gave him a home for the first year then, he had to move but couldn't take Elvis with him. So Elvis flew over to the UK on a pet passport and joined us and the rest of our cat family. From the very start he was extraordinarily affectionate and non aggressive. If one of the other cats hissed or spat at him he would just sit and stare. He wouldn't fuss if one of them stole his food but, in return he would 'borrow' the use of all their beds doing the rounds each day. One day I adopted an elderly dog from a rescue centre and as soon as I brought the old boy home, Elvis purred around him and rubbed his head on Tyke's face. When Tyke passed away, we then adopted a German Shepard from a rescue place and once again, Elvis gave the dog a warm welcome while my other cats had their usual hissing fits. He was such a warm and friendly boy. Like all other cats Elvis loved the outdoors exploring the garden, climbing up trees or just sunning himself in his favourite spot. I remember the first time he saw snow...he sat wide eyed watching the snow flakes tumbling down before he ran out and ploughed through the snow and jumped and twisted with sheer delight with all this white stuff. He was so comical the neighbours stood and watched him and laughed at his antics while he kept them entertained for a good twenty minutes with his acrobatic perfomance chucking paws full of snow in the air. Such a heartwarming memory. Today I honour our beautiful boy Elvis who was coming up for his 6th birthday. He died from an undiagnosed heart condition which caused complictions, but I do not want to dwell on the illness nor the last week of his life. Rather, I celebrate Elvis's life.... he had six good years filled with fun and love. My darling Elvis, I will carry you in my heart forever and all the memories we made together are in the scrap book of my mind. Your spirit will always be with us and one day we'll meet again at the Rainbow Bridge. Until then you're with Tyke, Sooty and Bonnie in a place where there's no pain or illness... in the Spirit Realm. Goodnight my precious boy, We love you with all our hearts. From your mum Sylvia and dad Randy. xxx
