Fritzie was originally a birthday present for my dad. Though he really was his cat Fritzie soon stole everyone’s heart with his charming personality (including neighbors). Fritzie moved with us through all of our homes. His first house was in Sundance, then we moved to an acreage just outside of city boundaries. Fritzie would start his day off by going to get the mail with Bogi and my dad. They would all race back to the house. Fritzie first then Bogi and then Dad would come out of breath. Fritzie’s afternoons were spent chasing gofers and playing with everyone. Then we moved to Palliser. Fritzie probably made the most friends there. When it was cold outside instead of coming in he would either sit on the electrical box or sit on top of Louise and Ed’s car. In the mornings he would go over to Rotco’s house and share a sandwich. Then when he got back home he would climb up the lilac tree that was facing my mom and dad’s bathroom window and meow for someone to let him in. Fritzie also loved to suntan he would lay in the sun for hours. Before we moved from that house Fritzie was about 15 years old but he still had the skills and energy to go mouse hunting. About two weeks before we moved Fritzie noticed that we had mice outside our house. He sat outside for 4 hours straight until it started to rain. He wouldn’t give up though. The next night my mom came home from work and lying on the walkway was a dead mouse. My mom threw it out but of course the next morning Fritzie went looking for it but couldn’t find it anywhere. Frustrated he didn’t get to show us his prize he sat outside again looking for another mouse. While we were outside we saw Fritzie in the garden eyeing a mouse that was climbing up the stem of a flower. Fritzie then pounced on him got him in his mouse and showed us. Then he started to play with him. Before we could throw it in the garbage can Fritzie put it in his mouth and ate him. Then walked away with pride. When we moved to our house in Oakridge about a year ago Fritzie just didn’t seem to want to stay. We had to go to our house in Palliser about fifteen times to go get him. We would stand in the alley way for about three minutes calling his name and then we would see him coming over towards us. The last time he went missing he was gone for about one week. We started to get really worried because all the times he had gone missing before it was only for two days at the most. Then we got a call from our old neighbors that Fritzie had literally shown up on there doorstep meow at them as if he was saying “help me I am lost”. He came home and that was the last time he ran away. Fritzie also had a fascination for chasing things that weren’t there. Every night you would hear him darting up and down the stairs like a maniac. Then once he was tired he would either go lay down on the pillow next to Bogi or lay with my dad on the recliner. Fritzie really was a great cat. He was everything you would every want out of a pet. When you were having a horrible day all that you would need is for him to come up to you and start nudging you, like he was saying,”it’ll be alright”. I know I can speak for everyone that knew him that we’ll all miss him a bunch.
