Mousey Boy:
"Guess he came with the house", Mom said when we moved to Indiana from Colorado. I was stoked because I'm a cat lover! He took a while to warm up to us because he was the shy, often unnoticed one next to my big brute of a feline, Mittens, who often tortured him haha.
My sister and I essentially grew up with him, teaching him to do tricks for treats since our dogs were always a little short on intelligence, but Mousey was as sharp as a tack and we would have contests; I would show off Mouse's skills and Britney would try to get the dumb dog, Max, to do...well anything haha!
When we moved from Elkhart to Milford, and Mousey came with us of course, having outlived Mittens who was younger than him. We joked that Mouse would outlive us all because even though years had passed, and he was 10+ years old, he never looked or acted a day older.
We adopted my 16th birthday kitty, Oliver, almost five years ago, and that was when Mouse decided to give us a scare! We think he got a little depressed because of the new addition and chose to just not eat. Lost a ton of weight and had us all worried, but the WONDERFUL people at the Milford vet clinic got our baby back up and running :) We totally thought this cat was indestructible then.
A couple more years passed and that brings us to recent events :( Our Mousey had a stroke and then stopped eating and just got really run-down. So we had to make the decision to end his hurting. And of course I'm getting all misty-eyed as I write this, remembering him and I having our last moments together in the vet's office. I won't ever forget the smell of his fur that I just breathed into in the minutes before the vet came in.
Thinking back on those 12 years together I noticed that his aim was always to make the least amount of trouble for his family, where our other pets always demanded lots of attention. He was the statue kitty that perched atop something, just watching what all was going on :) Perfectly content with basking in the sun or getting some awkward backhanded pets while sitting behind me on the couch.
We were great cuddle friends, when Oliver wasn't being an attention hog and busting in on our moment ;)
So Mouse, buddy, Mouse-ka-teer...you were by far the best pet our family will ever see. And even though we complained about you banging on the stupid baby gate every five seconds to be let upstairs...and that weird puke every other day phase you went through, we loved you tons and tons. And I would take Benadryl everyday to have some more years with ya. But you get to go be God's kitty for a bit, until I get up there to claim you back! Ya hear that God, he's just on loan ;)
