When we first met Gizzy he was nothing more than a little furball wrapped in a blanket. It took us awhile to come up with a fitting name for him, but the one thing that made him unique were his big ears, so we finally decided on Gizmo, calling him Gizzy as a nickname. He was so playful and loved to chase our poodle Duncan around the house, always biting his ankles. Gizzy never learned any tricks but he was a very loyal puppy, always wanting love and attention. He was a pretty lucky dog, always being spoiled with his favorite foods like turkey, chicken and especially bacon. Gizzy was so cute when he was panting because, unlike most dogs, his tongue would flip upwards and we would always pretend he was saying "Ah-La-La". In the wintertime, Gizzy loved to play in the snow. He would hop over piles of snow like a bunny, and his legs were always full of little frozen snowballs by the time he came back in the house. Just before Gizzy's 5th birthday, we moved from Pennsylvania to the Turks and Caicos Islands. It was a big change for Gizzy, and he tried to chew through his crate on the plane because he was scared. But when we got here, Gizzy immediately began exploring the bushes around our house. He would always get these prickly stickerburs stuck in his fur, so we eventually named these burs "Gizzies". We thought it was funny when Gizzy would attempt to pull off the stickerburs himself, gnawing on his own legs. We also soon discovered that Gizzy loved the beach. He would play in the waves for hours, barking as they crashed onto the beach, then chasing them back out to sea, sometimes getting tossed around in the riptide. But, we know he loved the thrill of playing in the ocean because he always went back for more. When he was fully soaked he would love to roll around in the sand. He made new friends in Turks in Caicos, like our new dogs Archie and Pearl. The three dogs got along great. Out of the three, Gizzy loved getting baths the most, and his favorite place to be rubbed was on his neck under his collar. But, one thing Gizzy did not like were thunderstorms. He was terrified of thunder and would always run up our staircase to my room just to lay with me in my bed, always hogging the pillow. Gizzy was always full of energy, but we knew that one day he would begin to get old and lose his vibrancy, which inevitably did happen. In his final days, Gizzy was very lethargic and much quieter than usual. We knew he was going to pass away, but it was incredibly difficult to come to terms with. The one thing I am thankful for is that everyone in our family got their chance to say goodbye. Gizzy was a great dog, he was a huge part of our family and we will never ever stop thinking about him and missing him. Gizzy can never be replaced, and we will continue to give our love to Archie and Pearl, but there will always be a special place in our hearts for Gizzy.
