I had never considered having a rat as a pet until we were given one by friends who could no longer keep her. We came to realize through Kippie that rats are intelligent, loving, gentle, sweet creatures who are so underestimated both as pets and in society in general. Kippie was fun-loving, loved gourmet food (especially Indian korma with naan bread), so gentle (especially with our little toddler who adored her 'Bip'). They say that a rat's intelligence is on par with a dog's and this was true of Kip as she came to learn her name and would come when called. In the 3 years we knew Kip we all came to love her dearly and it was with great sadness that brought us to the decision that we would put her 'to sleep' this morning after learning that she had lymphoma and was in a great deal of pain and discomfort. Our little rat taught us so much with her sweet disposition and gentle ways, we will miss you little friend! Sleep well.
