Duke can definitely be described as an "Original". The mold was broken the day that he was born. He was one of a kind and touched the lives of everyone that had the priviledge of knowing him. There was not one person that didn't have some wonderful words to say about our "King". The way that he would want you to pet him and as soon as you did he would roll over and make you rub his belly. Or when you are sitting down he would come and nudge your arm and stick his head under your elbow. Then there was his love for the outdoors; how he loved to be outside laying in the grass with freedom around him and chewing on his bone, or the way he swam ~ you would never know that he was a dog just because he swam like a fish. Anyone that watched him in the water was amazed that he would stay in there for hours sometimes all day! He would chase balls in the water or sticks and bring them right back to you and if there wasn't anyone around to do that he would just swim in circles like his tail was a propeller :0) When he had enough of the water he then would purposely come up beside you and shake ~ that was probably his way of saying "that's what you get for not coming in with me!" He had a zest for life and a love so unconditional for his family for his entire life right up to his last breath. He will be missed every day for many years to come but will never be forgotten. He will just be watching over us now with the same love.

Personal Notes

Duke ~ you will be forever in our heart and never forgotten. Love you always and miss you everyday.

Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you always used. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight. All is well, nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. Condolences from Dublin Ireland on the loss of Duke.

I am sorry to hear about Duke. He was a great dog and he will surly be missed by everyone in your family and many of your friends. I will miss him for sure. I remember Duke as being the dog that changed Karen's mind about dogs ~ from then on there really was no stopping her, Taylor then became part of the family and then Dale so all in all Duke has been a great inspiring dog.

We feel very PRIVILEGED to have known a dog as great as Duke. He was so well trained and fun to have around. He just loved everyone and especially loved being on the farm (even if all his balls are at the bottom of the pond). We loved him so much and he will always be in our hearts and memories. But he probably has retrieved all his balls already and is playing right now. Duke … You are the King!!! Go fetch Duke! Love lots … Auntie Char and Rob

I will always remember Duke as a swimming. How he loved it so, I can still see his happy face when we were at Kawkawa, camping, Didnt come out of the water. He truly was a remarkable dog, will never forget him! Kathy
