I got Butterscotch when he was about 6 weeks old.
He was a light tan colored tabby cat.
He soon grew to be very big, 15 pounds!
He was so beautiful on the outside and on the inside.
The Vet always remarked that he had such beautiful and unique eyes.
He quickly became best friends with my other cat, Magic, who was the same age as he was.
His other feline friend was Angel.
Butterscotch was a gentle giant.
He never hissed or scratched at anyone.
He was so kindhearted. Magic and Angel would fight sometimes. But Butterscotch would somehow always be the peacemaker.
He loved both Angel and Magic, but Magic was like his soulmate.
They would always sleep together, paws intertwined. It was so adorable.
Butterscotch was a real character! He loved to play. He could jump higher than any animal I had ever seen. He would jump up and turn the light switch on and off.
He did some pretty funny things too.
He once jumped into the bath tub when it was full of water.
He knocked over the VCR once and broke it.
He liked to sneak up into the attic. Our attic is unfinished and kind of dangerous. We had a hard time getting him down, but with some coaxing we did. he was covered with spider webs and looked like a wild cat.
He loved to sleep in bags and boxes.
He loved hearing his name too. I even had people call and say his name on the answering machine. He loved that and would scratch at the answering machine waiting to hear more.
He got sick on August 22nd, 2009. I was taking him to a routine Vet visit and he had a seizure. His kidney numbers were high. We got him fluids and medicine from the Vet on a regular basis. His kidney numbers flucuated.
About 2 months before he died he had a stroke. His one side was very weak.
But Butter loved life and kept on fighting.
He died on June 25th, 2009. His kidneys just could not take anymore. We tried until the very end to keep him alive. We learned how to give him fluids at home.
He died in our living room on the floor by the TV. He was lying there and I lay beside him and told him that I loved him.
For about 10 minutes his breathing was bad. Then he died in my arms.
He was almost 15 years old.
I wish I could have had him for longer.
I cry and pray for him every single day.
My only comfort is that he had a wonderful life. He enjoyed every minute of it.
He was a true and faithful friend. He never hurt me or anyone else.
I believe that he went straight to Heaven. He was the kindest soul I have ever known.
Magic and Angel miss him terribly too. It is so sad when Magic walks around yelling for Butterscotch.
Butterscotch will always be loved and remembered. I will pray for him every day until I see him again someday.
I want his face to be the first face I see when it is my time to die.
He was my child and my friend.
I love you Butter Boy.
Love Wendy

Personal Notes

Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you always used. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight. All is well, nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. Condolences from Dublin Ireland on the loss of Butterscotch.
