When I first met Jacob at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, he was 8 years old and nobody wanted to adopt a cat of that age, but I knew straightaway that he was special and that I was meant to take him home. He was so black and beautiful, I used to call him my 'puma-panther' (pooma panfa in cat speak)! He was an indoor cat, he never strayed, he would walk down the garden with one of us and run around but would follow us straight back inside. Having said that, he did manage, much to my dismay, to catch a squirrel and bring it to my bedroom as a present.. I don't know how he managed it because it was nearly as big as him! He had an irritating habit of pawing our face at unearthly hours to wake us... how wonderful it would be for him to do that again now. I know he caught a squirrel, but he was the gentlest and most placid boy, he let the kids carry him around and pluck him from his comfy place on the bed to play with him, but he was also definitely top cat!! When we aquired our 1st dog, did Jake put him in his place!! Our new dog Tai, a huge German Shepherd took a claw or two as well!!! 3 years ago Jacob developed an over-active thyroid, he was so poorly I thought I was going to lose him, but when the vet examined him, he said that even though he had a heart murmur as well, he could be treated with tablets, twice a day that placid boy let me put them in his mouth and he swallowed them before his food. Jacob was my baby, mummy's boy and as I practice white witchcraft, he was also my helper, he willingly let me steal a whisker or two for a spell! I miss him dreadfully and love him so much. He was there by our side through such tough times and I believe he held on as long as he could until he felt we were alright.
