It was a sunny April Saturday on 1994 when Tim and Todd drove up north to look at the remaining puppies for sale from an American Eskimo litter. Todd explained later that this little male dog walked right up to him and bit his toe and Todd knew right away, this was the puppy for him. The drive back to Holland was uneventful as the puppy slept most of the way. Tim and Todd stopped at a pet store for a few supplies and arrived at our house mid afternoon. Mom was waiting in the family room, when the cutest little white furball walked into the kitchen, stopped to pee on the floor, then continued to walk into the family room and into our hearts! Thus begins the story of Makui Akai Morawski, the best family dog we have ever known. Now, don't kid yourselves, this perfect dog had spunk, a strong personality and gave us fits every chance he could. But he also gave us his undivided attention for 14-1/2 years, his love and loyalty, entertaining us with endearing and naughty events.

Akai, an American Eskimo was true to his breed, he was very clean and was easy to potty train. Other kinds of training were more difficult, unless they involved lots of treats as rewards. However, he was a true puppy with razor sharp puppy teeth who enjoyed chewing just about every little thing in our home that mattered to us, including furniture, favorite shoes, wall board and great grandma's antique hall tree. He made it abundantly clear that he had entered into this family as an equal, and wanted no part living in the basement or garage when the rest of the family was together upstairs or resting peacefully in the second floor bedrooms. No matter how hard we tried, it was best just to let him have his way about this and work out the details. Thus he spent maybe two nights whining in the nice area we made him in the basement. As soon as you tied him outside to enjoy the weather the ear piercing barking started so it was best to just bring him inside. He was part of the family and a very important part at that and we had to get used to it.

There are so many special stories for all of us during the time Akai was with us, and the pictures and sentences depict these as we best remember them. This is a tribute and memorial to the best family dog ever from the family who loved him best, and who was loved best by him. Akai, we will never forget you and you will stay in our hearts forever!!
