Randy was a 2-year old retired racing dog we adopted from our local shelter. He always managed to find a comfy spot for reclining - usually our couch! He would run around our yard and then stop and smell the flowers in the garden beds. That's how we'll remember him - his velvety nose sniffing the roses. We took him to the vet, thinking he had a sprained ankle. Instead, it was bone cancer. He also had several seriously rotted teeth. Between the option of teeth removal and a leg amputation, or release from his pain, we chose to have him put to sleep. We sat on the floor with him while the medication took effect, stroking and kissing him and thanking him for the privilege of his existence in our lives. His passing was very peaceful. He had 8 great years with us, and we are so sad to have lost him. It's hard to lose a gallant and gentle friend, but we are so glad to have known him. We loved him very very much. There is a large hole in our lives now. Goodbye, sweet old Randyman.
