Kelsey Jo was a very special girl. I rescued her from an abusive household when she was 2 years old and she became my baby. Kelsey was a Chocolate Cocker Spaniel and was very beautiful! In her younger life Kelsey Jo had a full show coat which was beautiful however, her face was the cutest thing about her! You could look into those beautiful brown eyes and know what she was thinking. Those beautiful brown eyes would and did melt your heart!

In later life, Kelsey developed ear and skin infections which caused her to lose her show coat, in fact she lost all of her hair! When my wife, who was my Fiancee at the time, first met Kelsey she marveled at the fact I had a rare/hairless breed of dog because Kelsey Jo was hairless. I replied no, she is a Chocolate Cocker that is self grooming. Over the past 5 years my wife Paula and I were able to get 85% of Kelsey's hair grown back in and made considerable strides with her ear condition.

Kelsey Jo tolerated being bathed but afterwards she really looked forward to having a clean collar and a matching/complimenting bandana put on her. After a bath Kelsey Jo would run from the bathroom into the house and come and stand in front of the other people present and you would have to brag her up and tell her what a pretty girl she was and how beautiful she looked.

Kelsey received Christmas Presents from Puppy Claus, Birthday Presents, loved going in the car for a ride and especially loved going to McDonalds for a burger or to Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone.

Whenever we would come home from a day of shopping, Kelsey would come into the kitchen and stick her head in the bags to see if we bought anything for her. Kelsey knew that whenever we went shopping we always brought something home for her.

Kelsey Jo was a kind hearted and gentle girl. Even with the health issues she never bit or snapped and she would even let the cats push her out of her food and water dishes. She would stand patiently for a few moments watching the Cats and then she would become slightly impatient and shuffle her feet. Finally she would cry and look at one of us with a "I could use a little help here" look on her face.

Kelsey's favorite treats were the chocolate chip treats from one of the local pet store chains. One of our favorite things to do was to stack 3 or 4 different treats on top of the chocolate chip. Kelsey would use that cute brown nose of hers to knock the stack over to get to the chocolate chip!

In later life Kelsey Jo would have slight accidents. On one occassion my wife and I had gone out for the day and when we came home and entered the kitchen, we notice the small throw rug in front of the sink was wet. We both looked at Kelsey Jo and she looked up and down my wife and then up and down myself and without a word spoken she looked at the spot on the rug with a "Damn how did that happen look", or "One of the cats must have pottied on the rug"! My wife and I still laugh at that to this day!

Kelsey Jo got sick suddenly and was gone within a day! Paula and I fed her with an eye dropper and kept hoping against hope that Kelsey only had the flu however, that was wishful thinking. On Sunday, November 04, 2007, at 10:20 PM sweet Kelsey Jo took her last breath, her As Big as Gold heart stopped beating and those Beautiful Brown Eyes closed for the last time!

Kelsey Jo was such a joy and had the best life we could provide for her. She was a very special, loved and an adored member of the family. Kelsey had a life filled with love, kindness and Chocolate Chip cookie treats! My wife and I miss her terribly but now she waits for us at the Rainbow Bridge.

Personal Notes

What a beautiful spaniel Kelsey is, I say "is" because as you said, she is waiting for you at the bridge. We lost our King charles spaniel Phoebe on 6th june this year at 8.20 and we miss her terribly. She was the same type of character as Kelsey, in that she would wait for her friend to eat first befoe she would. Kind regards from Dublin Ireland.

Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you always used. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight. All is well, nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. Condolences from Ireland.
