Our family had a beautiful little boy Cairn named McTavish that we had gotten for our daughter Cecilia. I was told that Cairn Terriers didn't bark a lot. McTavish hardly ever barked. I think the first year we only heard him speak 3 times. A year later we felt it was time to surprise our son Jason with a pet. Daisy was a delightful puppy and a glorious friend for Jason. She was beautiful right from the start but she was the exception to the rule. God broke the mold when he created Daisy. She would bark all the time. I decided that she just loved to hear the sound of her own voice. Whenever I took her to the veterinarian people would have to laugh at her because Daisy would scratch at my legs and talk to me trying to get me to leave with her before we saw the veterinarian. Daisy always had to have the last word.

This Cairn Terrier was all heart. Whenever she knew you were upset about something she would come and sit beside you and give you loving kisses to make you feel better. Daisy always wanted everyone to be happy.

Daisy had many activities that she loved. She loved to go outside and chase squirrels and cats up the tree. I have a pool in my backyard and she would run around the pool barking at the Polaris trying to keep us safe. When the automatic sprinklers turned on she would attack them. Daisy wanted to protect her family from everything outside. Even if it was an inanimate object. But her favorite thing to do was to go for a walk. She was an obedience school drop-out. No matter how fast you walked you couldn't keep up with her. I finally decided that instead of me taking her for a walk that maybe Daisy was taking me for a walk. Inside the house Daisy was just as aggressive at protecting her family. Whenever I would try to vaccuum the floor she would attack the vaccuum.

Daisy should have been named "Jaws" because she would snap your fingers off if you tried to give her a treat. We learned to throw her treats into the air for her to catch. And catch them she did. Daisy looked adorable sitting pretty and catching the treats we threw into the air for her.

She was deadly to the squeaky part of a squeaky toy. It would take her less than five minutes to locate and destroy the squeak of any new toys. Daisy was also very selfish with the toys in the house. She would not allow McTavish to play with any of the toys.

When Daisy would have to go outside to use the bathroom her method of knocking was to jump up and hit the storm door with all four feet and then drop to the ground to let you know she was ready to return to the house. One day after Daisy had puppies she went outside to use the bathroom and when she was through she started knocking at the door. Daisy got the pad on one of her feet stuck between the glass and the metal part of the storm door. It took me and one of my neighbors close to an hour to get her foot loose from the door.

When we decided to breed McTavish and Daisy we allowed them to have two different litters of puppies. Between the two litters they had thirteen babies. All of their puppies were cute and lovable. I learned that I would not make a good breeder because I was naming the puppies and it was really hard to let them go.

Daisy, McTavish came to join you in heaven on November 11, 2008. He had a long full life and he couldn't have been loved anymore than you were. I loved both of you and I miss you both terribly. I hope that you two are both happy and playing together. Please remember to wait for me on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

There have been a couple of new developments lately. As you know my Mother has joined both you and McTavish in heaven. I was so lonely that I decided to get another pet. Her name is Trixie and she is partly Terrier but I don't know what the other part is. She is 4 months old and quite playful. My father passed away in April 2010 and the day after dad died I rescued another puppy named Bullet. He is a small, extremely fast, dog. Henceforth the name. Bullet is part Terrier and I am not sure about the other part. So I now have one medium sized dog and a small dog who seem to get along really well. I love both of them but I still miss Daisy and McTavish a lot. Please wait for me on the other side of the bridge and I will join you as soon as I can.

Personal Notes

Saying goodbye to a lifelong friend is so very hard and it affects all of us in so many different ways. For the first three months after Daisy was gone I would go out and talk to her standing by her graveside. Daisy I loved you with all my heart and McTavish and I miss you desperately. McTavish and I look forward to seeing you in heaven. Until then I hope our love keeps you warm.

Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you always used. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight. All is well, nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. Condolences from Ireland
