Mittens was adopted from the shelter in October 1990. She was 1 1/2 years old. She was my husband's first cat and our first pet together, before we were engaged.

She was already named Mittens and we thought to keep her name since she responded so well to it already. She was a beautiful young 1 year old cat when we adopted her. She adjusted so well to being away from the community cage in the shelter and into our loving home, as expected.

Mittens was loved by so many people. My husband's friends even loved playing with her. They would bring cat toys when they visited, as funny as it sounds. I had babysitters come, "cat sitters", when we were away who would buy her gifts and say she was the best cat to ever look after ever.

Mittens gave so much love to everyone. She was a people cat, a lap cat, and loved being the center of attention.

Mittens endured 2 moves to new places, a move into a home, and also the addition of other pets in the home, 4 other cats, whom some she welcomed kindly, and some not, at least at first.

No matter what Mittens was always gentle with us. She gave so much love to us at all times. When we had our first child she welcomed the baby and often sat near the baby when she was upset, almost to comfort her. Mittens played with our daughter, never getting too frisky. She was always so gentle with her, with us, with all humans. Mittens was so playful, she would roll from one side to the other and kick her feet if you tickled her tummy. She never used her claws at any time. Mittens favorite food was shrimp and fish and we would always have a plate ready for her.

Mittens gave us so much love and her life will always be remembered. She was always there, first thing in the morning and last thing at night. We loved Mittens so much. Living without her is amazingly hard. Yesterday she was put to rest and it was the toughest decision to ever make. I still wonder today but we know that her kidneys were failing and she was filling up with fluid from her heart as well. She wasnt eating any more either and drinking became painful as well all in one day. At 18 years old Mittens went to sleep and the loss is like losing a child.

Mittens was in all our Christmas photos and a part of all our celebrations. Even Santa brought gifts for Mittens under the tree. She was like just a child, and we will never be able to replace her or find another pet like her. We can always see her in videos and photos.

We love you Mittens. We pray you are happy in Cat Heaven with cat friends (you will always be the boss & in charge of course) and that you are enjoying the outdoors because of course now it is safe for you to go outside. (she loved sneaking out for 1 minute before I brought her back inside)

You will always be in our hearts and like my 3 year old daughter says.. "Mittens, we Love you & wished you didnt have to go to cat Heaven yet, but we'll never forget you Mittens."

We miss you already!!!! Until we meet again!!!! xoxoxox
