Our dearest Petey was laid to rest on April 27, 2007 after battling congestive heart failure the prior three years. Petey lived in the lap of luxury being pampered, nurtured, and spoiled by his mom for 11 years.
King Petey, as some have come to know him, was a very independent little guy. Never hesitant to let you know he was the boss of the house and whatever it was you wanted him to do he would do in his own time. Unless of course it had to do with dinner and then you better serve it on time or he would let you know about it. His favorite special treat was a cheeseburger happy meal from McDonalds. One of his favorite pastimes was laying on the back steps in the sun watching the rest of the guys run around chasing balls or birds in the yard. I truly believe he looked down his nose at them thinking, “I can not believe you guys are playing into the whole fetch thing.” Pete also loved to sleep on his back and compete with his Uncle Steve to see who could snore the loudest.
Knowing that Petey has joined his cousin, Sam Moran, up in doggie heaven has comforted our loss and grief. We are certain that Sam will greet Petey with open paws and introduce him to this beautiful stage in his new life. A life that no longer restricts the activities of a senior. He is now a rejuvenated spirit capable of running with the pack, breathing with ease and feeling no pain.
Petey is survived by his mom Joan, little sister Patty, Uncle Steve, Aunt Katherine, nephew Justin and cousins Gizzie, Georgie, Nanuk, and Nila all of the home.

The Rainbow Bridge poem:

By the edge of a wood, at the foot of a hill,
is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
when their time on earth is over and done.

For there, between this world and the next,
is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
for here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
until one day they stop and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just that instant, their eyes have met,
together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
the time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart
has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
and then, side-by-side,
they cross over . . . together.

Personal Notes

Pete we miss you so much. I know I use to complain about your loud snoring at night but now I find it hard to sleep at night with out it. I miss trying to get your eye drops in. I miss watching you try to run down the hall when it's dinner time. I just miss you.

I am sorry for your loss. Your Petey was born on the same day as my Smokee! Maybe they'll meet in heaven.

We had thunderstorms last night and it made me think of you and the way you were so afraid of them. We miss you.
