Jake was adopted from the Regina Humane Society by his ‘mama’ on March 22nd, 1994. Although he was a bit shy when he arrived in his new home (getting sick in the back of his Grandma’s car helped relieve the tension a bit), afraid of the stairs and very quiet, he soon found his voice and energy and continued to entertain friends and family for the next 13 years. His favorite Saturday morning past time in his new home was to have his mom, from her bed, throw his ball down the hall for him to chase and bring back with a, not always graceful, bound up onto the bed. This could go on for hours. Apart from the past couple of years, Jake remained a very energetic dog and was always willing to go for walks, drives and play with his toys.
Jake soon found other interests to amuse himself… walking around Wascana Park; trips to Grandma’s and Grandpa’s (which were his favorite); motorcycles (which he didn’t like – he barked at them when riding in the car); resting his head of the side view mirror of mom’s Geo so he could enjoy the breeze; playing with his old roommate, Dexter; cooling off in the hot summers in his paddling pool (most recently, his purple elephant pool, Herman); trying to figure out exactly what a Wiggly Giggly is; playing with favorite toy for the past 10 years, the stuffed pig named Norman. He also became a bit of a road warrior having traveled to Calgary, Colorado, Winnipeg, Avonlea Camp Ground, and of course, Idaho. There are so many stories to tell about Jake, this could be a novel. But some of the highlights… chipping his mom’s tooth (same one twice); jumping over a coffee table and nearly taking out his Grandma & Grandpa’s TV because there was a dog on it; barking at his mom in the most amusing way just to get a walk; the grumbly noises he used to make when he stretched; the first time he found out he could swim – he was more surprised than any one!
Jake will be terribly missed by his mom, Deb Banks, his grandparents, Heather & Earl Banks – thanks for spoiling him rotten and taking such great care of him when his mom couldn’t, his Idaho family, Deanna, Bob, Lilly & Dylan Miron as well as the dogs of Jack, Samantha & Abbey (I don’t think Sooner the cat will miss him much), his most recent buddy and friend Jason Sherwin (aka Ponyboy), as well as many friends and dogs he got to know along his walking route.

Personal Notes

Thank you, Jake, for being with me these past 13 years. You brought such joy to my life and helped me through so many things. I wouldn’t be the person I am without you. I just wish you could be here to help take away my tears this time. I will miss you always and I love you something awful. - Mom

Hi Jake, I have never met a dog with more energy and love than you. You will be missed terribly. I must say, the love you brought your mom was incredible. She talked about you all the time and always had a smile on her face when your name came up. We love you and will miss you. The Corbins

Jake, although we never had the opportunity to meet in person, I've heard so many stories about you over the years I feel like I knew you. You were a beloved four legged child and will never be forgotten. You fell into the lap of luxury when your Mom took you into her home and her heart! :) You were blessed to have many years to enjoy good times together. I wish all doggies had the same life you did. Love, Auntie Cathy, Taz and Dixie oxoxoxox

Hi Jake. I only knew you a short time but you had a great influence on my life. You had a spirit and "attitude" that was second to none. I was always amazed by the interaction between you and your mom - truly kindred spirits. Although you are physically gone, I have many fond memories and I will always carry a piece of you with me. Thanks for being my bud! Take care, rest peacefully, and enjoy that big off-leash dog park where you are now! You are missed.
