Petey was the best friend we ever could have asked for. He was the sweetest dog in the world and loved everyone he met; he could never restrain himself from jumping up and giving kisses to everyone. He slept between us at night, went everywhere that we went, and subjected his mommy and daddy to merciless teasing about how spoiled he was!! All he wanted was to be in the center of human attention and he loved nothing more than to cuddle up on the couch with us all afternoon long. His clowny personality and antics made us laugh at times when it seemed like nothing else in the world could. Petey's favorite games were Blanket Monster, Shower Monster, and proving that the "tuff toys" and the "for extra strong chewers" toys were absolutely no match for him. His favorite treats were McDonalds cheeseburgers, macaroni and cheese, and carob chip doggie cookies. Petey was truly our life and the apple of our eye. Even after his human little brother was born, Petey layed by his side whether he was in the swing, cradle, or bouncy chair. He also loved to give his little brother kisses. Unfortunately, not long before Petey's 1rst birthday, our landlord Dave Brown told us that BSL had passed in our town and that our dog was now illegal. Rightfully so, he said, because "Pit bulls are vicious monsters!" I didn't understand. My baby wasn't a monster! He was the dog that made everyone laugh, the dog that gently played with the neighbors 2 min-pins, the dog that elicited fits of laughter on the 4th of July when he was so terrified of fireworks that he insisted on daddy carrying him around like a 75 lb. lap dog. But he wasn't a monster. Dave Brown even threatened to beat Petey with a shovel or a baseball bat. So in August, we drove Petey 3 hours out of town to a cousin's house in the country where we thought he would be safe. He would have a large yard to run in and a pittie friend to play with. Sadly, within a matter of weeks, Petey somehow escaped the fenced yard he was in and was hit and killed by a car, driven by some person who didn't even care to stop and get help for my beautiful boy. Petey was more than just a dog, he was family. And he was a true, perfect representation of his breed: The American Pit Bull Terrier. He is up in heaven now, a shining angel of a reminder that BSL ruins families. He will be forever remembered, treasured and missed by his family and many friends, human and animal alike.
