Buddy came to us in 2002 from a family that loved him dearly, but were unable to keep him because they were forced to move into a small apartment. We welcomed him into our home and our hearts, and he took to us immediately. He was a very mello dog, and he was wonderful with our children. He never bit or lashed out at anyone, he was everyone's friend. He was the typical Golden Retriever you see in the pictures, laying faithfully at his master's feet. A couple of years ago, we got a Saint Bernard under the same circumstances we got Buddy. They became very good friends. They were always seen laying together and chasing each other through the yard. They provided us with lots of laughs. In September of 2005, I was deployed overseas to Kuwait and Buddy was there for my wife. He was her faithful friend and "shadow" and followed her where ever she went. Buddy's faithfullness proved to be his downfall. On July 1st of 2006, my wife left the house to run an errand. She left Buddy in the backyard, but forgot to lock the gate. He tried to follow her, but obviously couldn't keep up. Our neighbor seen him and tried walking him home, but he ran ahead and jumped in front of a car. He was killed instantly. Our neighbors buried him in our field an erected a monument for him. My wife and kids were devastated when they found out, and my wife felt guilty for leaving the gate open. When I was told, I was in disbelief. After i got over the initial shock, I called my wife and told her to stop blaming herself. She thought I would be upset with her. I was upset, but not with her. It was an honest mistake. Buddy, you are greatly missed by your entire family. We love you, and hope to see you in heaven some day!
