My son got hit by a car and he died. About one month later my daughter wanted a poodle so we got her one. I'm the one who took care of her, and she helped through that time in my life. If I was having a bad day, she knew it and would try and cheer me up. It got to the point that I started thinking of her as my child. She could talk like us. She called me Mama. She could say a lot of things, even "I love you"! My husband and I cried when we had to have her put down. She was one-of-kind. I know I will never have another dog like that again! I will always love her.
