In memory....
Jacoby, a Border Collie, known to his family and friends as "Jake", crossed over 'The Rainbow Bridge' today, 8/31/06, peacefully during one of his many "afternoon naps". He was born in Hobe Sound, FL on March 2, 1992, and had 5 siblings. He was adopted on May 31, 1992 by Brenda and Matthew Schurman, then living in Vero Beach, FL. "Jake" was a Master Beach Frisbee player, and "Head of Homeland Security" in his house. His early years were dedicated to "excavation" (digging), and "woodworking" (chewing furniture).
Jake was selected to attend, and graduated from "Dogs for the Disabled" in Fountain Inn, SC , after it was discovered that he was one of the few dogs that could actually detect seizures in humans before their onset. He graduated with honors, in that he not only could access doors and lights, retrieve dropped objects, and pull wheelchairs, but he also obeyed silent hand signals. In his "golden years" he kept his skills sharp by carrying the remote control to family members, and keeping the yard free of cats.
"Jake" leaves behind many people that knew and loved him, as he never met a stranger. He viewed all people he saw as "friends he had not yet met". He will be sadly missed by his extended family: His "mom", Brenda Schurman, "brother/friend" Matthew Schurman, "dad" Ted Salem, "Papaw" Bill Wittern, his Aunt, Uncle, and two cousins-- Bobbi, Dave, Ashley and Erin Delk, (who welcomed him into their home for "Fun Visits", and gave him lots of love), and four "special fury/feathered friends","Baby", "Junior", "Kylie" & "Roxy".

In "Jake's memory", please do one of the following: 1.)adopt a pet-and give it a 'forever home'. 2.) donate a bag of food to your local shelter 3.) just be nice to a stray.... it's not their fault.
