Chestykov - the Wee Man. I remember Holding you in the palm of my hand When you were a furry tiny wee boy. I remember When you would jump up to scratch at my feet At the bottom of the bed. I remember When you would sneak about the pillow during the night Making squeak sounds until you were let under the covers. I remember Watching your wee paws scurry down the stairs When I had to let you out the back door. I remember Listening and shouting to you from the kitchen When you were fighting your territory out the back. I remember Watching you run through all the different back gardens Miaowing, as you hurried to be fed. I remember When you would spray in the house and pee on bags Just to let us know the place was yours. I remember You did just that on my friend’s jeans and we tried to iron them dry Then visited your Mammy at work, oh what a smell. I remember When you would sharpen your claws on the laundry basket And we would shout at you when you did it on the couch. I remember When we got your pride and joy removed and you were all queasy But you forgave us so easily. I remember That you were always so strong and you never ever got ill Simply because you were proud. I remember Lying on the couch and you lay stretched out on my chest As we purred and watched tv. I remember You had the best life with your Mammy And she remembers it too. Remember me Look out for me, Chester. And your Mammy too. They were the best days of my life And though my heart is aching now I smile when I think of you Because I know I’ll never ever forget you.
