Pam was first adopted as a kitten by students who were renting a house I owned. They were begging me to come and see the little cat with 24 toes! Her mother too was polydactyl. Well I fell in love and told them if ever they needed to leave Pam, I'd be happy to have her. We got Pam!! She knew her name, and came when I called within one day. Pam was very smart. She'd walk with me up to the mailbox. She loved her new home; lived in the forest and stayed indoors too with 5 other cats. I was sad to leave when divorce changed my living arrangements. Pam loved Nyack too. Once she caught a bird in midflight. Her best talent was scaling trees. With those extra toes she'd be on top of a tree inside 5 seconds. Everyone always remarked about her toes. Cats would come and go. Pam got along with everyone. I was unsure about surgery when her thyroid medicine wasn't working. She was 14! After the operation she seizured. It was frightening. Valium saved her and I tried to keep a watch on a heart murmor. The murmor left. Pam was back to normal; now sweet 15. She continued doing the things she loved; going out to scratch her back in the sun, eating her catnip, making her funny anahh sounds, and best of all sleeping under the blankets with me, purring the loudest purr; you could hear from the next room. Pam too was a tree cat; a cat on the roof, but most of all our belived friend. She was here to smell my daughter, Alexandra when she arrived from the hospital. Now Alexandra's almost in college...She's been around before computers, before everything almost. Today, she fell asleep. For the first time placing my hand on her didn't bring a purr. I went to drive my daughter to school. I was hoping to come home to find her alive. It's almost as though she waited. I arrived by her side, placed a hand on her, she stretched and was off. Her memory will be around forever. Rest in Peace. We love you more than words can express.
