We found Katie (or as we called her, KT) on the side of the road one night after coming home from a movie. We didn't want her to get hit by a car, so we brought her home and called the number listed on her tag. It turned out the owner didn't want her, so we adopted her, June 10, 1999.
We don't know when Katie was born, nor do we know much about her history prior to living with us. We do know she was in the shelter a couple of times. As a result, she suffered from separation anxiety, and was only happy when we were around.
In the last year of her life, she went blind from cataracts, she was deaf, and had some arthritis, which made it hard for her to walk straight sometimes. But as long as she was able to eat, to recognize us, and remain pain free, we promised we would care for her. But none of that ever stopped her tail from wagging when we gave her love and attention. For a while during her last months, this included doggie diapers and lots of hands on care. But it was worth it because she was such a wonderful dog. She was a happy dog and loved us very much. But on Saturday July 9, 2005, she let us know she was too tired to go on. We feel blessed that she adopted us and brought so much love into our lives.
We miss her deeply, and have spent the past 24 hours crying and remembering and wishing we would have had more time.
We will always love you Katie Dog.
