March 1993, I walked into a veterinary hospital to ask for a job but when I entered the room, there was a cage with two little kittens in it looking for a home. One of the kittens was literally hanging on the cage making quite the ruckus and it was then that I decided I really needed this particular kitten. This was the beginning of my life with Kasey. This little orange kitten was quite confident and bull-headed right from the start but he also was amazingly sweet and made many friends right away. Kasey's amazing blue eyes captured everyone's attention. Kasey went from Austin, TX to living in Houston with his "uncle" Eric for a time to a couple more homes around Houston. At one time, I started letting other cats from adopt a cat house with us temporarily until they would get homes but Kasey simply "tolerated" this experience. While living in Clearlake, this little girl cat made her way into our home and was not going to let Kasey deter her, that was the beginning of our multiple kitty home starting with Kasey and Katrina. Over the next couple years we added Taz then Titus to our family but Kasey always stuck to himself letting it be known that he was FIRST and favorite! At about 8 years old, after many years of begging and fighting me to get outside Kasey finally found a way to become an outside kitty (those of you that know us know this story). He had it good, coming and going as he pleased, a nice outside house with carpet and a heating pad in the cold weather. Kasey was exceptional at making human friends any where he went with several special people that truly love him in places we have left - Joel, Laura, Vicki, Dorothy... When I had Matthew we all thought that Kasey would be the most difficult to deal with as he did not ever care for children. To my surprise it turned out that he was absolutely the most tolerant of Matthew and was the only one to let Matthew get close. I lost Kasey after 12 years last Wednesday, 30 March to a coyote of all things. I know I could not have saved him this time but it still hurts quite bad. Kasey was not your typical cat, hence his nick-name of "little orange dog". Kasey touched my heart and life like no pet ever as and most likely ever will!
