We found her in one of my flower pots when she was just a few weeks old. She actually belonged to a couple of boys in my apartment building, but they had abused her and injured her so there was no way I was going to let her go back to them. The first couple of days she munched on bologna and sat on either my husband’s lap or mine. Kahlan was so tiny, malnourished. She looked adorable sitting among the flowers, a tiny black and white tuxedo kitty with green eyes.

My mother-in-law kept trying to talk us out of keeping her. I was trying to get pregnant and she just knew I would get toxoplasmosis, but that’s another story entirely. Our first vacation away from her was just for the weekend. When we came back home, she was really happy to see us. She was crying when we went to bed, so we picked her up and put her in bed with us and that is how she started sleeping with us.

We have 2 other cats inside, and Kahlan was the little Al Capone of the group. She was very protective of the other two cats. When Daxie was getting her first bath she was crying, and Kahlan ran into the bathroom to make sure we weren’t hurting her.

She loved soft things, blankets, pillows, afghans, etc. We would make her special little beds whenever she was under the weather. She always liked sitting on my robe after I got out of the shower.

She died just a few hours ago. I was with her. She was such a brave little girl. She never cried or whined. I told her it was ok if she was ready to go and that her daddy and I love her very much. I hope she knows just how much we really do love her.
