Stanley was a goldfish. Jim bought him in 2008 from Walmart for 29 cents. He is joined in the afterlife by his partner for a time, Stella.
Stanley has lived in 7 places together with Jim over the years. His latest adventure was a cross country move from Seattle to NE Ohio, in the dead of winter.
He accompanied Jim through many dark days: drinking, anxiety, and debilitating depression, providing a glimmer of the lightness of life in an otherwise dreary existence. Stanley has also been there through his recovery and re-awakening to this day, when life is full of gratitude, and birds, warm water, and lovely people.
Many thanks for 14 years of daily joy. You will be missed. Yet, the lightness in our hearts you have gifted will continue on.

Personal Notes

I had the pleasure of meeting Stanley just over a month ago after he transitioned into his final home in Painsville Ohio before his passing. I got to pet him and feed him and I have to say he was by far the most adorable goldfish I have ever met. I’m so saddened by his loss. Sending so much love and blessings to you Jim as you grieve the loss of your little friend. Rest In Peace Stanley and swim free buddy!

I had the pleasure of taking care of Stanley for a couple of weeks just after his cross country trip to Ohio. He brightened everyday for me. He had so much personality. Rest easy my friend and I hope you are swimming in a beautiful place.
