After years and years of begging for a dog, we finally we blessed with our Jack Russell Terrier Jake Ryan Kapolnek. I will never forget the day that Danielle and Mom brought him home and surprised us by calling us into the backyard. He was so little and had what seemed like big awkward paws that he would eventually grow into. He was a very spoiled pup, his favorite food being turkey. Most of the time "turkey" would be the only thing Jake would respond to. He would even hop out of his bed when he heard the lunchmeat drawer in the fridge opening. Jake loved to snuggle and would always be jealous when anyone was loving Mom and not him. He only bit people twice, and that was Eileen and Jim, because he was trying to protect Danielle after Eileen and Jim were ganging up on him. Jake pretty much hated all other dogs. He really hated his cousin Penny, up until about this year when he finally took a liking to her. Penny loved Jake so much and I bet she will miss him. Jake also loved Roxie, the black lab in Door County. Whenever we were getting ready to leave to DC we would always say "Jake you want to see Roxie?!" and he would wag his stumpy tail and bark.
The best part about Jake would be coming home to him after being away from school. He would wag his whole body and dig his nose into you. And we all know that the only way Jake accepted you is if you sat on the ground and spread your legs. All of our friends always found that weird..
Jake loved Door County the most, even though it required the dreaded car ride where his tail would shrink into his butt and would always require a timely puke session through Milwaukee. He loved running on the beach and grabbing a stick that would 100 times bigger than him. It was always fun digging in the sand and then he would imitate you. Jake hated when any of us kids or Mom and Dad went out on the waverunners. He would run up and down the beach and bark. I hated when he would doggy paddle as far as he could out in the lake because I always thought he would drown.
Some other things I will never forget about Jake is that he always smelled like Fritos, he ran like a bunny, he could "sit pretty" for hours and he was the best dog in the world. We love him and will miss our sweet baby always.
Please feel free to share some of your memories about Jake.

Personal Notes

We babysat Jake over the summer in Milwaukee and he was a wonderful watch dog. He barked everytime anyone was at the door and kept us safe. He was a great snuggler and will be missed very much.

My family finally decided to get a dog when I was getting ready to leave for college. I thought I was being replaced. It turned out our sweet baby of a puppy was indeed, a baby, a new addition to our family. And now there is no replacing all of the wonderful memories we have of him. I feel like everywhere I turn, I see him...and will continue to think of him. Thunderstorms, turkey, fireworks, Door County, ringing the doorbell, howling together, saying certain phrases..."Does the baby wanna go for a ..." He did have a wonderful life, although cut short, and he definitely made all of ours better as well. I'll miss our sweetest boy.

I remember being in Door County with Jake and we were walking from the house to Grandma's cottage and we ended up having a race. To my surprise, Jake beat me! It wasn't that long of a walk but me and Jake also played fetch in which it was almost impossible to get the stick back to toss it. I'll never forget Jake <3

To me, Jake will always be short, little legs running as quickly as he could every time the doorbell rang. Once the guest entered the house, Jake would escort them to the basement. He was a great greeter!

What a great tribute to Jake! How lucky he was to be such an important member of a loving family. I'm very sorry about his passing and I know how heartbroken you are. Its such a huge loss on your household, Jake sounded like such a character...and he was handsome too!
At this difficult time, I offer my warmest condolences to Jake's family.
Take care.

Well, we will all certainly miss our little "Jakey-boy"! I have never seen such a tiny dog with so much energy, especially when he was up in D.C., swimming way over his head, playing fetch, dragging giant logs, digging in the sand for absolutley nothing, and just owning the beach! He was a great dog, perhaps just a wee bit spoiled :)(like a "shweet baby"!), & we are so sad to see him go so soon! But at least he got to live a very good life with a wonderful family that loved him! Love you guys...hang in there!

Thanks Eileen for doing this. You never forget all the joy a dog brings to a family. He really was a ray of sunshine when you walked into the door. He loved all of us. My favorite memories will always be how much he loved the country. He loved to try to catch chipmunks in DC and PR. especially KK's chipmunk Charlie who was always sunning himself on her front steps. He really loved going to the corral with Danielle. He thought he was a much bigger dog than he was. I will always remember the fun he brought to our house. Every kid needs a dog!!!! They bring out the best in people. Jake is now hanging out with Murphy Rountree, Pepper Nedza, Bailey Rountree, Col. Cody Kapolnek, Barney Kapolnek and many other dogs that have gone before. Thanks to my family who talked me and Dad into keeping the family growing. We are adding Mia and Milo to our family next week. They are brother and sister Jack Russell Terriers. xox

I was fortunate enough for Eileen to lend me Jake one hot summer weekend in Milwaukee. Jake, Paige, Joe and myself went camping at Kettle Moraine State Park!! We packed up the car and made the trip, with no doggie motion sickness! Upon arrival Jake loved the new scenes and smells and of course we explored the camp grounds. Jake helped us fish and he loved going swimming with us. We kept saying how grateful we were that we had Jake with us because when someone approached the camp site Jake would be the first to know and he would start barking-(this happened a few times by a strange man who was camping close to us). Jake seemed to love the camping lifestyle, we drank some beers. We then went to bed and he cuddled with up Mr. Joe Caminiti in our tent. We were all so happy Jake was there because he knew he would protect us from that strange man. The next morning we took a stroll through the camp then returned him to Eileen! Jake honestly made the camping experience so much better!
